For the Colored Cactus show, five Israeli artists are paired with five American artists to work with in collaboration on site-specific pieces for the gallery. Working on a new project together and in the same space invites more interaction between the artists, so the pairs can start work in the gallery up to a month in advance. Individual work rituals will affect each other, and produce an active dialogue of theory, style, and work. Besides bringing different cultural contexts, the artists bring different assumptions about access and working space. (Simply being from a nation with a smaller population than New York City gives Israeli artists very different expectations about space, materials, audience, etc.) The situation of working for a month in the space makes it akin to a residency--the gallery can be treated like studio space on a scale that neither group has access to. The exchange culminates in an opening and public exhibit of large-scale installations.

The process is not knowing how it will end- for us to be open to influences from each other and to work and grow from the conversations we have.

לתערוכה קקטוס צבעוני, צוותו חמישה אמנים ישראלים עם חמישה אמנים אמריקנים לעבוד בשיתוף פעולה, על פרויקטים סייט ספציפיים חדשים במיוחד לחלל הגלריה הענקי הממוקם, ב "אינדסטרי סיטי, ברוקלין,ניו יורק",כל אמן עובד על פרויקט חדש באותו המרחב ובאותו הזמן מצב זה מזמין אינטראקציה בין האמנים, תנאי העבודה הם כמו מצב של עבודה משותפת בסטודיו ,הזוגות יכולים להתחיל לעבוד בגלריה חודש מראש. מתוך תהליך עבודה ממושך ומשותף יוצר גוף עבודות המורכבות ומושפעות זו מזו, המטרה היא לנסות ולייצר דיאלוג פעיל של תיאוריה, סגנון ,שפה ועבודה. מלבד הבאת הקשרים התרבותיים השונים, האמנים מביאים הנחות שונות לגבי גישה למרחב העבודה. (עצם העובדה שהיותם של האמנים מישראל שייכים לקהילה קטנה ומצומצמת יותר של פעילות תרבותית,חללים, קהל, הזדמנויות ועוד..הקטנה באופן יחסי לעומת זו של האמריקנים , מביאה עימה שוני גדול בציפיות מהחלל הנתון, מהקהל,מהחומרים ומהעבודה בכלל). המצב הזה של עבודה עבור חלל ספציפי נתון חודש מראש מאפשרת אופן פעולה ועבודה כמו בסטודיו, וחופש ליצור עבודות גדולות מימדים, כאשר תהליך היצירה שלהן, הוא חלק בלתי נפרד מהן. תהליך זה יגיע לשיאו בפתיחת התערוכה.

חלק חשוב בתהליך העבודה על התערוכה הוא אי הידיעה כיצד היא תסתיים ואיך יראו העבודות בסופו של התהליך, מצב זה משאיר פרצה פתוחה להשפעות אחד מן השני ולעבודה מפרה משותפת.
